Confex 2012: Fiona Pelham, ISO 20121

Fiona Pelham, Chair of the ISO 20121 Committee, presented at the 2012: A Year of Sustainability in the Event Industry session on 7th March 2012. She spoke about the development of new industry standards and reporting for sustainability, including the sustainable event management standard, ISO 20121, and the sustainability reporting framework, GRI EOSS. Her presentation also covered the new sustainability initiatives that are currently being developed for the event industry in the form of roadmaps for waste and resources, and food.

Confex 2012: David Stubbs, London 2012

David Stubbs, Head of Sustainability at London 2012 presented at the 2012: A Year of Sustainability in the Event Industry session. He spoke about the London 2012 vision, their main sustainability goals and how they are being implemented, as well as how the initiatives are working in practice. He finished by emphasising that this year is “A precious and one-off opportunity to display UK’s leadership on Sustainability”.

Mervyn Jones from EPOW (European Pathway to Zero Waste) presented at the 2012: A Year of Sustainability in the Event Industry event on 7th March 2012. During the session, he explained the latest developments relating to the sustainable event industry roadmap, and the resource management plan tool.

Confex 2012: James Musgrave and Roger Simons, MPI

James Musgrave from Leeds Metropolitan University & UK Centre for Events Management joined Roger Simons from MPI at the 2012: A Year of Sustainability in the Event Industry event on 7th March 2012.   Presenting about the research that has been carried out on behalf of the event industry association, they covered the background to the research, some key findings and responses plus the next steps for the project.

Confex 2012: James Mark, ExCel

James Mark, Services and 2012 Games Director at London’s ExCel spoke at the 2012: A Year of Sustainability in the Event Industry session on 7th March 2012. The presentation covered the venue’s sustainability initiatives achievements, which include energy and waste reduction as well as a community engagement scheme. He also emphasised the importance of taking responsibility as an industry for the sustainability opportunities available to us in 2012.
