Charlie is specialist consultant for development of the event organiser sector supplement of the Global Reporting Initiative framework. She is project manager of EventSustainability.com, the online measurement and reporting system for an event. Using this system Charlie works with clients to measure, set benchmarks and report at their events. Her accounts include: Zurich, Coca Cola and Google.

Charlie has conducted Positive Impact training courses and has also received education on Return on Investment according to the Phillips ROI methodology, she regularly presents internationally on sustainability and reporting within the event industry.

Guy’s mission is to increase the sustainability of the meetings and events industry. He is responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at MCI, the world’s largest integrated event and association management company. With over 1200 staff in 5 continents, Guy runs one of the most comprehensive CSR programs in the industry. He is the past-president of the Green Meeting Industry Council, and a pioneer and expert on creating sustainable destinations.

Guy manages a global consulting team that advises the UN, associations, corporates, governments, convention bureaus and venues worldwide. Current destination transformation projects include Copenhagen, Gothenburg and the Costa Del Sol.

Rosa Garriga Mora is an ROI consultant for meetings and events and serves as Marketing and Media Manager for Event ROI Institute.

She holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations and has a Masters in International Events Management from Stenden University, the Netherlands, and London Metropolitan University. She is also certified as a Meeting Architect.

Rosa currently lives in Berlin, where she also works in other projects related to the design of events, such as a research project on virtual events or the edition of a book on using social media for events.

Kerrin MacPhie, Director of Sales, ACC Liverpool

Kerrin MacPhie is Director of Sales at ACC Liverpool, home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena. Kerrin has worked at ACC Liverpool for 6 years and has been a key asset to the company since day one.

Kerrin has worked in the tourism industry for 26 years and began her career as a management trainee within the Holiday Inn Group. In 2003, Kerrin moved to The Mersey Partnership, the Sub-regional Tourist Board for Merseyside, as Commercial Tourism Manager, managing the Convention Bureau and call centre. Kerrin led the way in business tourism activity in national and international markets and successfully positioned the Liverpool City region as a quality destination within the top 25 meeting places in Europe.

Kerrin is a Board member of ICCA UK&I (International Congress and Convention Association), and a member of the Executive Board oft ABPCO, the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers, holding the position of Treasurer.

In 2010, Kerrin established ACC Liverpool’s Affiliates programme, a group of highly influential people from commerce and industry who help ACC Liverpool win business from new sectors, thereby helping to develop the economy of the city.

Luke Flett is Group Sales and Marketing Manager at Universal WorldEvents. He has worked in the event management industry for 10 years in both operational and business development roles across various sectors and geographies. His current role includes managing new business, proposal and business development work. He is also responsible for implementing corporate brand strategy and marketing communications activity.

He was instrumental in developing Universal WorldEvents pioneering TripleImpact® expression of what best practice should be in the planning and delivery of sustainable events.

Tamara Kennedy-Hill is the Executive Director of the Green Meeting Industry Council. Tamara has over ten years experience in the hospitality and meetings industry. Tamara is a long time champion for advancing sustainability in the meetings industry; speaking at various industry events and serving as active member and program chair for GMIC prior to her role as Executive Director. Tamara has a B.S. degree in Communication, Training and Development emphasis, and a professional certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation from Marylhurst University.

The Green Meeting Industry Council is the premier global community solely dedicated to sustainability in the meetings and events industry not only through education but also by spearheading research, policy and standards. The GMIC is an active member of the Convention Industry Council. The mission of the GMIC is to transform the global meetings industry through sustainability.

Rebecca Saunders, Sustainability Events Advisor, Positive Impact Events

 

 

 

 

 

Rebecca is a sustainable events advisor at Positive Impact Events and a lead consultant with sister company, Sustainable Events Ltd. She provides support to the event industry to implement sustainability initiatives including the British Standard for Sustainable Event Management, BS8901 and reporting according to the GRI framework. Rebecca also provides education to the events industry around sustainability and is a well rehearsed speaker. She has presented at many high profile events throughout Europe and the Middle East on event sustainability and is ideally positioned to give a unique insight into sustainability in the event industry.

Rebecca’s clients include AOL, Zurich, Manchester United, and Coca-Cola. Rebecca is a member of the British Standards Institute Associate Consultant Programme and is Sustainable Event Alliance Accredited Professional Consultant. Rebecca has created an online course ‘Sustainable Event Management’ which is approved and hosted by Leeds Metropolitan University, UK Centre for Event Management.

Roger Simons, CSR Sustainable Events Manager, Meeting Professionals International

 

 

 

 

 

Roger Simons was born in the UK and studied Tourism & Business Management before moving overseas to work in Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxembourg. An experienced international event manager and Certified Meeting Professional ™ in the corporate and association fields with over 7 years experience in the field including 3 years with MCI Group, a global Professional Conference Organiser and Association Management company. He is now responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at MPI, the world’s largest meeting & event association with over 23,500 members across the globe and offices in Dallas, Shanghai, Luxembourg and Qatar.

Roger’s mission is to further sustainability within the industry providing tools and resources to MPI’s members and the wider industry. MPI’s European conference in 2008 was the first in the world to be third-party certified under the BS8901 Sustainability Management system standard. Following this MPI have continued to organise their events under the BS8901 framework, whilst supporting the evolution of the industry through thought and practice leadership around events. Roger represents MPI on the ISO 201021 Standard Project Committee 250, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Events Sector Advisory Group, Convention Industry Council APEX/ASTM E60.02 Task Group and the Convention Industry Council’s Future of Certifications Taskforce.

Andrew Walker, Managing Director, E3 Strategy Limited

 

 

 

 

 

Andrew Walker is Managing Director of E3 Strategy Limited, formerly Eco-Efficient Events (E3) Limited, a company he launched in 2010 to address the growing need for sustainability management professionals within the global meetings and events industry. Andrew strongly believes that organizations and the people within them have an amazing opportunity to create business events that increase opportunities for learning, motivation, networking, productivity and social legacy, while at the same time decrease waste, emissions, energy/water consumption, and cost.

Andrew is an active member of the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), and since July 2010 has served on the International Board of Directors. Since 2002, he has been an active member of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and currently sits on the CSR Advisory Council. A dual Canadian-British citizen, Andrew relocated from Toronto to London last year and now works with clients on both sides of the pond.

While many of us understand the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of implementing sustainable practices within our meetings and events, we often forget to address one of the most important questions: the ‘why’. Aside from the obvious need to manage our environmental and social impacts, there is a growing recognition of the many benefits associated with being a more responsible business with reference to some of the latest research out of the United Kingdom. This session will help you understand the business case for sustainability and how it applies to meetings and events.

 

Magdalina Yarichkova, Eastern Europe Co-ordinator, Sustainable Event Alliance

 

 

 

 

 

Magdalina Yarichkova is currently part of the Sustainable Event Alliance, which she joined in 2010, as Eastern Europe Coordinator. Prior to joining SEA, Magdalina undertook various event related roles in Europe, as well as in Asia. Magdalina’s experience further involved the writing and publication of various articles, related to sustainability issues in the meetings and events industry, as well presentations at international events.

Magdalina is a part of MPI’s Platinum Program, having three presentations related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Furthermore, Magdalina is in the expert group of the Bulgarian mirror committee, part of the international committee writing the new standard ISO 20121 – Event Sustainability Management Systems.
